02 - The Voice

Description

This is a list of all main characters from the game Furi in order of my preference, that means: from my least favourite (number 12) to my favourite (number 1). I'll be posting one image every day for the next 12 days on my gallery folder "Furi". Each picture has a chibi version of the character, their name and one sentence said by them on the game (or about them, in case the character doesn't speak). I'll be editing every description everyday too, so that each of them has the links to all the others so far. In the end, each of them will have links for all the other ones. (I hope I don't mess it all up). All of them were drawn first on paper, then scanned and finished on Paint Tool SAI using my mouse and my Wacom drawing tablet, and Paint Brush for the fonts.

My number 02 character is The Voice!

I really love this character! I tend to agree with The Voice in most things he says about the other characters, I think he does a very good introduction to most of them, although some of them... He seems not to like much. Including my favourite character. So it's not like I always agree with him XD.
I like how he seems to be some kind of halucination... Someone who's only in The Stranger's head... But at the end, he's not! That kind of breaks the cliché. I also like how he slowly reveals the stroy throughout the whole game, without actually making anything too clear. Every tip he says make sense when you play it for the second time, although they are not completely nonsense when you first play it too. For example, after fighting The Scale, he says "the destruction of the world on one hand, but on the other... what about my world?". After, you know he's talking about freeing you and causing the true destruction of the planet by The Star. And you know that "his world" is his daughter. But on the first time... It kind of still makes some sense. You might think he's talking about The Scale's story... Or you may think his "world" would be freedom, and the "destruction of the world" in this case would be the deaths of all the guardians... It has some meaning. So I really like his monologue through the whole game!
There's no battle against him, instead we get to know a little more about his life. About his story, I like that. He's kind of the last character I was expecting to see being moved by the love for his daughter, probably because of what I sais previously: He seems like an ilusion, some kind of... conscience... His own name suggests that: The Voice. But it turns out that, instead of "the voice in your head", we are kind of dealing with a "guiding voice"... He seems, at first, to be just the mere expression of The Stranger's SELF. His madness after being tortured coming out as an imaginary individual and telling him what to do. In this case, he'd actually be an expression of full interiority, the other side of the mind talking to The Stranger... But he is actually kind of the opposite! He's a master of manipulation. Something from the outside, completely deatached from you as an individual who actually shows up and moves you into doing things his way, for HIS own purposes! Of course, you and him have a lot in common, after all, both of you have reasons to leave. But he does not hesitate about making it clear for you that he HAS a plan, and that he's tried it before with others. All this time, he has been using his charm and other's weaknesses to manipulate them into helping him leave. He's actually objective and exterior, not interior and subjective, as he seems to be on the begining. I've seen people say "It's like Donnie Darko". "He's in his mind".... All those things. But the fact is... He's not a product of The Strangers mind, but the one capable of entering it and modifying it.
One thing I could complain about, and that's not a problem of the character himself, I guess... is that I'd have liked to see more about HOW he god caged in the prision he built. WHY is he there? I'm not sure if I missed something, but I can't acually see anything but vague theories. I don't think the game made that very clear. We focus a lot on why he needs to leave, and why he's willing to sacrifice all those lives to achieve his freedom. But the reason why he has lost it is pretty obscure. I mean... What has he done? Is he a victim of an unfair corrupted system that got him stuck in there? After all, he says all the cells were built from HIS cell... So did they lock him up and forced him to work creating those crazy prison floors? Or has he actually done something terrible? Anyway, I think that it actually makes sense that he says nothing about his mistakes. It's a very confortable place for manipulating people to be the victim. It's clearly not interesting to him letting The Stranger know about his evil traits, about whatever darkness might exist in his past... So I guess it's acceptable. But it gets me curious.
Anyway. About his design. I REALLY LOVE his design. It's so much nonsense! But in the end it actually seems to mean something! Besides the hard-to-ignore reference to Donnie Darko (at least almost everyone I've talked to also thought about this when they saw him), if you see his daughter at the end of the game, you see that she holds a purple bunny. So... I guess that's why he wears that mask! "There's a thin line between love and madness"... What else besides madness could make a person wear a giant purple bunny hat? (Besides anime). Maybe he just misses his daugther so much he has created this outfit thinkng of her! Anyway, he's got a lot of style. I like his clothes, I like his big pants. I love his palette... The blue belt detail matches the other colors... the shades of purple and brown, his dark skin goes well with the colors of his clothes... I really like his design.

Algo que me interessa saber é: ele tem talento em combate? Me pergunto isso pois, a katana que ele da ao Stranger pode ter sido dele (sim, ele pode também ter construido ela, mas vai né :V). A arma laser também pode ter sido dele, talvez.

Se for o caso, então The Voice pode ter talento com a katana, mas, acredito que ele possa ter mais talento em furtividade e ataques supresas, por causa do talento dele de desaparecer e aparecer em outros lugares (sim, pode ser que aqueles sejam apenas hologramas, mas estou focando mais na parte da sala dele, que ele faz o mesmo. Ou seja, ele PODE fazer isso). Então, ele pode lutar como um Ronin, ou talvez um ninja :V A coisa é, ele pode ter talentoso com a katana (não ao nível The Edge, óbvio) e pode ser que ele seja bem rápido e silencioso pra acabar com seus inimigos ou proteger sua filha de qualquer coisa. No caso da arma laser, ele pode ter criado ou simplesmente criado em sua sala, talvez... ou talvez ele tenha roubado do The Chain :V

Algo interessante que quero adicionar é oque o Stranger pode carregar tipos de armas, como se ele fosse um... Charger ambulante, sacas? Como ele pode concentrar a energia da katana pra um ataque mais forte ou carregar sua pistola pra um tiro mais forte. Falo isso, pois não acho que a pistola e a katana possam fazer isso, mas sim o Starnger que as da uma carga extra... hm, então Riders também podem carregar armas ou maquinas... interresante
