05 - The Song

This is a list of all main characters from the game Furi in order of my preference, that means: from my least favourite (number 12) to my favourite (number 1). I'll be posting one image every day for the next 12 days on my gallery folder "Furi". Each picture has a chibi version of the character, their name and one sentence said by them on the game (or about them, in case the character doesn't speak). I'll be editing every description everyday too, so that each of them has the links to all the others so far. In the end, each of them will have links for all the other ones. (I hope I don't mess it all up). All of them were drawn first on paper, then scanned and finished on Paint Tool SAI using my mouse and my Wacom drawing tablet, and Paint Brush for the fonts.

I really like this character! At first I didn't like her much, but after thinking about her more, I actually like her a lot. I don't like her personality, I don't think she's a good person, I would not like her as a person if she were a real person and I met her in real life, BUT I like her as a character!
I like how... ambiguous she can be. She's the one character that you can litterally choose not to fight, AND the one that you hesitate before killing. She's the only one who offers you another option besides going back to your cell or killing her. So she seems like the only 100% good character in the game... But that's not how it goes*. If she were really 100% good, I don't think she'd keep saying the kind of thing she does during her fight. She actually is quite cruel... She becomes vingative once you decline her offer. She doesn't respect you and gets offended and mean once you decline her "good noble offer of being your only hope and salvation". She has this INSANE need to be, not only the hero, but the ONLY HOPE. The true ANGEL on your life. Probably not only on yours (The Stranger's), I believe this must be a personality trait. She's a megalomaniac. Like... How DARE you decline her help? How DARE you not bow to her feet and thank her for being such a good person and finding such a peaceful and wonderful way of solving everything? And now she will punish you... That shows that she's not the good girl. She doesn't fight you only because she has no other option, otherwise she wouldn't have the need of making you regret it. She fights you as a punishment. Not only she will punish you for not accepting her offer, but she will no longer ALLOW you to change your mind. She doesn't give you second chances, and mainly: she wants you to feel BAD for declining her. She is cruel at the point of wanting to hurt you in more than one way... Manipulating you to feel guilty. "This will eat you up inside for the rest of your days", she says, and that's how she WANTS it to be. She not only manages to end up as the merciful heroine, self sacrificing angel, but also injects her poison on you so you BELIEVE it, so you BELIEVE you are the evil creature who killed this wonderful being. You believe you should have done it differently...
And what if you did? Then she really IS the angel. She doesn't betray you, once you choose what she wanted you to, she treats you well and respectfully everytime you do what she likes, what she offered, everytime you admire her, agree with her, thank her... She manipulates you so well... And the game plays in her favour: "Congratulations! You chose to be peaceful"... But what about the imminent destruction of the planet by The Star? What about The Voice, who'll never see his daughter again? Is that ending really the best possible? I don't think there is any 100% good ending on this game. And The Voice... He KNOWS her game. He's not fooled by her. She can actually be a surprise after what he says about her, since most people I've met couldn't see her bad side after her battle, they fell in her trap! But then you think... Why does The Voice hate her so much? Is it just because he's also a manipulation master and wants to trick you? Influence you? I mean... Nothing bad actually happens to YOU if you listen to her and stay, and still... He tells you so firmly: DON'T LISTEN TO HER. That's because he knows it will ruin HIS hopes. But what if it's not only about his plan? Maybe he actually knows how megalomaniac she is and maybe he just hates this kind of person... Maybe.
Anyway, she's the perfect megalomaniac manipulating inteligent badass. Two sides of a person that will reveal themselves depending on whether you do as she likes or not, and she has the POWER to actually move you. The Stranger is actually moved by her when he hesitates before killing her. And by the way... What a cutscene! Her self sacrifice and her final sentence fit her SO WELL. The Stranger's hesitation shows not only that he's not such a cold guy after all AND Is also a tip to the secret ending, like... "he hesitated only on her... so maybe there really was something else here?". And finally: The Voice's comment about your hesitation: "That gives me HOPE". This word fits The Song's appearance in the game in an amazing way, and she uses it a lot during her fight. It's what she wants to be, it's what she offers you, it's what her angel-like figure represents... And when he says that your hesitation gives him hope, he's talking about how he KNOWS you'll have to choose between destroying the planet or not. He knows what he's putting at risk. And that he realised that you also have a heart, so maybe you will not destroy it. All this part of the game has something to do with the word "hope", I believe... I really like that cutscene.
Her design is amazing. It shows her ambiguous side very well with the angel wings that look like... evil tentacles or spider legs when they're not "lit". I like her clothes too. The halo that turns intoa visor is also really cool. Her battle is very nice because of the flying, and I like her diving attacks. She's badass. I like her!


*Talking about good and evil, if I had to choose one 100% bad character in the game, I'd say it's the Chain, and my 100% good one would be The Beat.
